Already in the second half of the 19th century Arco was an important center for health retreat. It is in fact known as a resting and treatment place, thanks to its mild climate, the fresh air and the panoramic position on the Lake. The Archduke Albert VII of Austria realised its winter residence in Arco, the so-called Villa Arciducale, surrounded by a lush park, the Arboretum, where nowadays it is possible to admire a lot of exotic and Mediterranean trees. The Habsburg family decorated the town with parks and public gardens, some elegant liberty villas and beautiful palaces, making Arco a town to be visited in all its splendour.
One of its main symbols is undoubtedly the Castle of Arco, among the most beautiful and evocative medieval strongholds in the Alpine region. It was built by the Counts of Arco on the peak of a rocky tower overlooking the plain of the River Sarca, and gives an incredibly fascinating view. Nowadays it is also home to several events and amazing concerts.
The climate in Arco is favourable for many outdoor sports that can be practiced, climbing above all. Arco is in fact the world capital of free climbing, and every year it hosts the Rock Master, a world climbing competition that summons athletes from all over the world. The town is also much appreciated by the mountain bike lovers and by the hikers who love to hike on its footpaths of all sorts of level and difficulties.
Shopping in Arco is connected to the outdoor sport world as well, mainly climbing. There are in fact a lot of specialised shops along the downtown streets, Via Segantini being the main one. Here you will find clothes and equipment for purchases that will make your holidays even happier.
The undoubtedly charming town center has a lot of things to see and abounds with restaurants and bars where tasting the Garda Trentino zero-mile delicacies. During the summer thanks to its cycle routes and its beaches, during the autumn because of the enchanting autumn foliage, during the winter for the Christmas magic, during the spring for its colours, Arcobonsai and many other events.
