Up in the hills high above Riva del Garda, the village of Tenno perches between olive groves, vineyards and alpine rock formations. Facing south and nestling among spectacular plant life, this location always offers clear views as it proudly presents Lake Garda below.
Those who have previously visited Tenno and all its contrasts cannot forget it in a hurry: this little community and its immediate surroundings turn out to be quite big on closer inspection! The absolute highlight is Lake Tenno, which can be reached via a picturesque and winding road from Riva del Garda, and whose blue tone has even made a name for itself as “Blu di Tenno”. The “borgo” of Canale di Tenno, named as one of Italy’s most beautiful villages, is also definitely worth a visit – its medieval alleyways will transport you back in time to the Middle Ages.
Tenno is also located in the “Riserva di Biosfera Alpi Ledrensi e Judicaria UNESCO”, a nature park that treats visitors to an exceptional wealth of biodiversity, as well as many historical and cultural attractions. A short walk through the woods around the village or a visit to major sites, such as the Chiesa di San Lorenzo or Tenno Castle, make a perfect end to a trip here. A visit to the underground Varone waterfall, almost 100 metres in height, and its caves should also feature on any to-do list – a sight that once captivated
the world-famous author Thomas Mann!
A few kilometres above Lake Tenno, 765 metres above sea level, the Passo del Ballino connects Garda Trentino with the Comano Terme region and the foothills of the Brenta Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
