The origin of the well-being offered by the spa at Terme di Comano is a spring that rises in a little artificial grotto, tucked away amidst the wide green spaces and rural villages between Lake Garda and the Dolomites. It is in fact here that the regular flow of the precious waters marks the passing of the days in an ancient rhythm, away from the hubbub of everyday life and towards the tempo of nature and tradition.
The scents and colours of the flowers that blossom on the pastures at lower altitudes will stimulate all five senses on cooler spring days. Imagine yourself on one of those vivid expanses, for example near the Don Zio hut above Comano Terme, as your gaze sweeps over the valley: aren’t you feeling better already?
On hot summer days you can find refreshment in the refuges that nestle in the beautiful Brenta Dolomites. A hike in the Val d’Algone is a must for revitalising yourself close to nature while immersing yourself in the authentic spirit of mountain traditions. As you walk through the pastures of the valley, take time to observe the unbreakable link between past and present that still characterises daily life on the pastures: the grazing times on the mountains remain unchanged, marked simply by the rising and setting of the sun.
It is well known, however, that the palate is also critical to well-being: and it is in autumn that the Lomaso area pays homage to its local produce. While the woods lose their summer foliage and don their spectacular seasonal hues, the farmers devote themselves to harvesting their Montagnine potatoes and crunchy Bleggio walnuts. This ritual is repeated every year and, at the end of the harvest, culminates in numerous food and wine events that enhance the distinctive flavours of these products with zero-km recipes.
Finally, when the days give way to longer nights, the lights of Rango’s Christmas market brighten one of Italy’s most beautiful villages. Winter is the time when its typical vòlt (see ed.), courtyards and cobbled lanes play host to the producers and craftspeople who offer the fruits both of their labour and their ingenuity.
This is the little world that surrounds Terme di Comano: a world that has transformed the well-being gushing from a marvellous thermal spring into a lifestyle that respects its own identity and tradition.
Editor’s note: Vòlt is the local term for the cellar spaces found in traditional Trentino villages, featuring barrel ceilings and entrances that open directly onto the village streets. In winter, these spaces are opened to the public and become part of the Rango Christmas Market.
This article was published in the first issue of BLU, the Garda Trentino magazine. It’s dedicated to the Terme di Comano, a natural retreat for body and mind, and to its surroundings, a land of flavour, tradition and nature.
