A legendary peak – and a BASE jumping icon
Monte Brento is steeped in legend. According to local lore, a massive landslide once buried the ancient city of Kas beneath its slopes. Today, however, it’s best known as a world-renowned BASE jumping site: the “Becco dell’Aquila” (“Eagle’s Beak”) draws thrill-seekers from around the globe for a vertical leap of 1,300 metres into the void.
A truly untouched environment
Monte Brento is home to a pristine limestone cliff ecosystem. Its rugged face is dotted with pioneer vegetation nestled in rock crevices, surrounded by isolated holm oak trees and small forest patches. Higher up, grassy ledges and thermophilic beech woods take over, while black pine forests dominate the lower slopes.
This site is part of the Natura 2000 Network and recognised as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) for its unique wildlife, including species that reproduce only in this area, as well as rare glacial relicts that have survived since the Ice Age.
