Fifty years after the opening of the “Ottorino Marangoni” via ferrata in Montalbano and the “Gerardo Sega” via ferrata in Avio, the Mori and Avio sections of SAT, with the support of SAT Centrale and the Italian Alpine Club, are organising a national conference dedicated to the role of via ferratas in today’s mountain environment.
The event brings together institutions, technical experts, researchers and professionals to compare experiences, challenges and future development prospects.
The discussion will focus on topics such as safety, technical and regulatory aspects, accessibility, environmental protection and responsible management, as well as the relationship between via ferratas, the landscape, local communities and tourism development.
Among the scheduled speakers, representatives of SAT and CAI, mountain guides and experts will explore the value of via ferratas, their evolution and the opportunities and challenges connected with their use.
The day will conclude with a round table moderated by journalist Fabrizio Torchio, offering an opportunity for discussion and for developing a shared vision for the future of via ferratas.
The conference will take place on Saturday 17 October at the “Ex Galetera” Hall in Mori. Participation is free of charge, with registration required and subject to availability.
The day will also include two activities in the area. In the morning, participants can independently climb either the “Gerardo Sega” via ferrata in Avio or the “Ottorino Marangoni” via ferrata in Montalbano.
Participants undertake the climbs at their own responsibility and must have suitable equipment and adequate experience.
