Lúcia de Carvalho
A biography that already reads like a musical geography: Angolan roots, a childhood in Portugal, teenage years in France and a deep passion for Brazil. Lúcia de Carvalho brings all these influences into a hybrid musical world where African roots meet Brazilian and Portuguese repertoires, alongside contemporary sounds drawn from reggae, funk and pop. A dancer since her teenage years and later a singer and songwriter, since 2009 she has developed a distinctive artistic path in which rhythm and the body continue to play a central role. Kuzola, a word meaning “to love” in Kimbundu, became both an album and a documentary, born from a journey to rediscover her roots. With Pwanga! – “Light” – this exploration expanded even further, thanks in part to her collaboration with producer Jean Lamoot. The result is music that is vibrant without being superficial, shaped by a constant movement between memory and the present, Africa, Europe and South America: different worlds that find a shared identity in the voice of Lúcia de Carvalho.
