Along the way you’ll find 7 information panels that turn the walk into a journey through the history of the walnut in Trentino: from local varieties and uses of the wood to homemade cakes and liqueurs, with botanical tips to recognise the tree in different seasons and simple care suggestions.
The route alternates country lanes and comfortable mule tracks, with short panoramic climbs opening views over valleys, villages and cultivated fields. In spring the meadows bloom; in summer the walnut trees offer cool shade; in autumn the golden foliage takes centre stage; in winter the bare crowns draw a minimalist landscape.
Perfect for families, photographers and anyone who loves to combine nature and local culture: each stop tells a piece of the area’s identity and the relationship between community and agricultural landscape.
The information on this chart is subject to inevitable variations, so this means that none of the indications are absolute. It is not entirely possible to avoid giving inexact or imprecise information, given how quickly environmental and weather conditions can change. For this reason we decline any responsibility for changes which the user may encounter. In any case, the hiker is advised to check the conditions of the places, environment and weather before setting out.
In the village centre, a small lane is taken to the right; at the next junction, keep left, soon arriving in Balbido (the highest point of the route). Leaving the village, turn left and immediately left again. Shortly afterwards, near Santa Giustina, a path is taken which rejoins the road. Then turn right and again right along the gravel track; after crossing the stream, turn left to return to tarmac. Keep to the left up to the next junction, then turn right downhill to the junction by the Church of San Faustino.
Continue straight for about 100 m, turn left and proceed to cross the Rio di Larido; here keep right. Shortly afterwards, Madice is reached: take the road to the right and, after passing through the village, keep to the left to return to the starting point at Santa Croce.
From Ponte Arche/Comano Terme continue towards Bleggio until you reach Santa Croce (4 km).
