Technically a very easy tour, largely on paved road, which you can easily do even on a gravel bike, while enjoying the pictoresque surroundings overlooking lake Garda

Signage: 736. Lago di Tenno - Tour

The loop proposed here starts out at the highest point on the route at the Lake Tenno car park.

This means that the first section is generally downhill, on minor roads in areas with little traffic and cross country, and then the trail climbs again to the starting point.

From a technical point of view it is a trail accessible to practically everybody. It is fairly easy from a physical point of view too, with a total distance of around 10 km and elevation of just under 400 m. If you want to do it together with another short tour, using the same starting and arrival point at Lake Tenno, you might want to consider route 738 or the more technical and challenging 739.

This itinerary touches on picturesque villages in the Tenno area, little stone houses huddled together and there are stunning views along the way.

Safety guidelines

ITRS - International Trail Rating System

The ITRS is an objective way to assess trails and routes from a biker’s perspective, evaluating four aspects:

  • Technical Difficulty: riding skill level needed
  • Endurance: combined effect of length, uphill and downhill
  • Wilderness: amount of planning required based on mobile phone reception, rescue options, water supply and wildlife
  • Exposure: consequences of a fall

Discover more about the ITRS system and check the classification of this tour in the photo gallery.

Safety Tips

  • Always wear your helmet.
  • Plan your ride.
  • You share the trail with other users. Yield right of way to hikers.
  • Let your speed be determined by your experience.
  • Ride slowly on crowded trails, overtake with politeness and respect.
  • Cycle only on authorized and open trails.
  • Avoid muddy trails in order not to damage them further.
  • Respect public and private property.
  • Always be self-sufficient.
  • Do not cycle solo in remote areas.

This information is subject to inevitable variations, so none of these indications are absolute. It is not entirely possible to avoid giving inexact or imprecise information, given how quickly environmental and weather conditions can change. For this reason, we decline any responsibility for changes which the user may encounter. In any case, it is advisable to check environment and weather conditions before setting out.

Directions

The departure point of the trail is in the Lake Tenno car park.

Turn onto the side road signposted Matoni right behind the wooden tourist information hut (open in summer), and pedal southwards parallel to the main road. Looking out over the valley below, after about 650 m you come to the first junction where you keep to the left. Continue on straight across a short stretch of dirt road and on to the cobbled road whih comes from the nearby lake. Keep to the right here and follow directions for Canale di Tenno. Since it is a medieval village, you will not find any trail signposts in the narrow streets. The trail heads through the main square where there is also a place to stop for refreshments; keep to the left and then right as you come out of the village and back onto the main road. Now stay on the right as you head downhill until you come to the stop sign at Ville del Monte. Turn left here, then you come to the little church where you turn right and pick up the signposting again for the bike trails. Now turn onto a pleasant dirt track which leads to Tenno. Once back on the main road, follow it downhill until you come to the imposing Tenno Castle. Turn right here and go straight on along via dei Molini until you come to the main road on the other side of the vale. Once you come to the stop sign, go left for a short distance and then immediately turn right onto the side road climbs towards Pranzo. Near the town you come to the main road again, turn left and follow it uphill. After about 2 km you can turn onto a cycle track on the left hand side of the road which takes us the final kilometre to close the loop.
