Safety Tips

1. Choose itineraries according to your physical and technical abilities, gathering information on the area to visit, trail accessibility and equipping yourself with an adequate hiking map.
2. Wear clothing and equipment appropriate to the effort and length of the hike and carry in your backpack the necessary items for emergency situations and a first aid kit.
3. It is advisable not to undertake a mountain hike alone. In any case, tell someone the itinerary you plan to follow and inform them of your return.
4. Check the weather forecasts and constantly observe weather developments.
5. If in doubt, turn back. Sometimes it is better to give up rather than find yourself in difficulty due to bad weather or for attempting difficulty levels beyond your strength, abilities, or equipment.
6. Avoid unnecessarily leaving the trail and taking shortcuts.
7. All the listed routes develop in a natural environment. Following them means accepting the risks of practicing a sport in nature.

From the church in the village of Tiarno di Sopra we take the SAT 458 trail on Via Marconi, climb the Valle Sacche up to Giuf and continue along the ridge towards Monte Rango, from where we descend towards Malga Stigolo and its small artificial basin. From the hut we return downhill staying on trail 458 which turns into a dirt road and then paved road before joining the SS240. We cross the state road and follow the cycle and pedestrian path back to Tiarno di Sopra.

The Valle di Ledro is connected to Riva del Garda by the 214 extra-urban bus line (Riva-Valle di Ledro-Storo).

Mountain hikes require specific clothing and equipment. Even on relatively short and easy outings, it is always better to be well equipped to avoid unpleasant surprises and to cope with unforeseen events such as, for example, a sudden storm or a drop in energy.

What to bring for a mountain trekking?

In your backpack (for a day hike it is usually recommended to have 25/30L) it is advisable to bring:

• water bottle (1L)
• snack (for example, dried fruit or chocolate)
• first aid kit
• windbreaker jacket
• a fleece sweater
• spare t-shirt and socks (preferably sealed in a plastic bag)
• worn or at least carried in the backpack a pair of long trousers
• hat
• sunscreen
• sunglasses
• gloves
• whistle to be located in case of emergency

Wear footwear suitable for the route and season. Trail surfaces can be uneven or rough and a pair of boots will protect you from twists. A grassy slope, a rock slab or a steep trail, if wet, can become dangerous without proper footwear.
