ITRS - International Trail Rating System

ITRS is an objective methodology to classify routes and trails from the point of view of riders by evaluating four aspects:

• Technical difficulty: required skill level
• Form: combined effect of length, climb, and descent
• Wilderness factor: necessary planning considering phone reception, rescue options, water supply, and wildlife
• Exposure: consequences of a possible fall

• Control your speed based on your experience.
• Travel slowly on crowded trails, overtake courteously and respectfully.
• Never leave marked routes, do not travel closed trails.
• Avoid trails in case of mud to prevent further damage.
• Respect public and private property.
• Be always self-sufficient.
• Do not travel alone in isolated areas.

A loop route starting from the historic center of Riva del Garda and following the cycle path leading to Varone. From here, the climb begins that first reaches one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, Canale di Tenno with its lake, and then Monte Calino. From there, you ascend through the forest road of Val di Tovo and then continue towards Val Lomasona, which will lead us to Comano Terme. From there, the road continues to Ponte Balandin, and from there you follow the Limarò cycle path. At its end, the descent begins, leading to Sarche, then continuing towards Pietramurata and then towards Dro, passing near Lake Bagattoli. Reaching the locality of Oltra and passing the town of Dro, you arrive at Maso Lizzone, and at the fork, continue on the false flat reaching Ceniga. From there, in the blink of an eye, you reach Arco, first the historic center and then the industrial area, thus arriving at the end of the route and the starting point.

The main centers of Garda Trentino - Riva del Garda, Arco, Torbole sul Garda, Nago - are connected by several urban and suburban bus lines, allowing access to the trailheads.

Bike rides require specific clothing and equipment. Even on relatively short and easy outings, it is always better to be well equipped to avoid unpleasant surprises and to handle unforeseen events such as a sudden thunderstorm or a drop in energy: surprises are also part of the fun!

Also remember to carefully assess the type of route you are undertaking, the localities you plan to pass through, and the current season. Has it rained? Be careful! Trails will be slipperier, so you need to be more cautious.

What to bring with you during a bike trip?

• adequate water supply based on your needs (consider temperature, possible refills, duration of the route)
• snacks (for example, dried fruit or bars)
• windproof and rain jacket
• spare jersey and socks
• sunscreen
• sunglasses
• bike gloves
• map or GPS device
• torch preferably helmet or handlebar mounted (an accident or technical failure can prolong the duration of the trip)
• first aid kit
• bike repair kit to fix mechanical incidents
• signal whistle
