From Vigo Cavedine, the route follows gentle country roads and farmland to Drena, overlooked by its ancient castle high above the village. From here, the trail loses elevation quickly, descending through the woods towards Dro.
In Dro, the route changes direction and heads north again. Gravel roads through woodland and countryside lead first to Lake Bagattoli and then to the historic Fies hydroelectric power station.
Shortly afterwards, the landscape changes completely as the route enters the Marocche di Dro, a vast area covered with enormous boulders created by ancient landslides. In this important protected natural area, the trail crosses an almost lunar landscape where vegetation has adapted to the dry, rocky terrain.
After leaving the Marocche, the route reaches Lake Cavedine and follows its peaceful western shore. The final section returns to woodland, among broadleaf trees and pines on Monte Gaggio, before descending towards the countryside around Pietramurata, where the fourth stage ends.
1. Choose itineraries that suit your physical and technical abilities. Collect information about the area you are visiting and the trail’s conditions and get a detailed trekking map.
2. Wear clothes and take equipment that suit the difficulty and length of your tour. Keep emergency gear in your rucksack, including first aid supplies.
3. Do not go walking alone in the mountains. In any case, tell someone where you are going and report back on returning.
4. Look at the weather forecast before setting off and always keep an eye on the weather.
5. In case of doubt, go back. It is better to give up than risk bad weather or face difficulties beyond your strength, ability and equipment.
6. Do not leave marked paths and do not take shortcuts.
7. All described walks are in a natural environment and therefore their use is at your own risk.
This information is subject to inevitable variations, so none of these indications are absolute. It is not entirely possible to avoid giving inexact or imprecise information, given how quickly environmental and weather conditions can change. For this reason, we decline any responsibility for changes which the user may encounter. In any case, it is advisable to check environment and weather conditions before setting out.
Continue along the country road, following the signs, until you reach a small roundabout. Go straight ahead to the next junction, then turn left and walk uphill for about 100 metres.
At the junction by Maso Michelotti, turn right towards Drena, following the Cammino marker.
On reaching Località Luc, turn right at the first junction and right again at the second. Follow the paved road downhill towards the centre of Drena and the castle.
Head uphill towards Drena Castle and, after the first ramp, turn right onto a trail through the woods. The path descends to the SP85. Cross the road carefully and re-enter the woods.
After crossing the SP85 a second time, continue through the woods and descend towards Dro. At the bottom of the descent, cross the SP85 once more and take the connection to the cycle and pedestrian path, following it to the centre of Dro.
From the main square, continue along Via Cesare Battisti, passing the theatre and library. At the end of the straight section, turn right and continue until you reach Via Dosso del Castello.
Follow the Cammino marker and, after about 200 metres, turn left onto the Sentiero dei Molinei. Continue along the trail until you reach Lake Bagattoli.
From the lake, continue to the SS45bis. Follow the pavement for a short section, cross the road at the traffic lights and continue to the Fies hydroelectric power station.
At the power station, turn right onto the cycle path and continue straight to the next junction. Turn left here, following the Cammino marker.
Continue through the countryside, then turn left into the woods, following the signs towards the Marocche di Dro.
Cross the Marocche area, carefully following the route markers, until you reach Lake Cavedine.
At the lake, turn left and take the trail along the western shore. Continue until you reach the left-hand turn marked by the Cammino sign.
Once you reach the forest road, turn left and follow it for about 200 metres. Then take the steep but safe trail on the right, which climbs towards the upper slopes of Monte Gaggio.
Continue following the signs until you reach the cycle and pedestrian path near Pietramurata. Turn left, cross a small bridge and continue to the next bridge.
Here, turn left and then immediately right, following the Rimone. Continue straight to Cantina Gino Pedrotti and then on to the centre of Pietramurata, where the fourth stage of the Cammino ends.
Stop in the locality Marocche on request.
What should you take when you go on a hike?
Your rucksack (for a day trip a 25/30L capacity should do) should contain:
Make sure you're wearing the right footwear for the trail and season. The going can get rough and rocky underfoot and a pair of hiking boots will protect you from sprains. When wet, a grassy slope, rocky slab or steep trail can be dangerous unless you are wearing the proper footwear.
And finally... don't forget to bring your camera! You'll need it to capture the stunning views you come across all over Garda Trentino. And if you like, you can share your memories with us at #GardaTrentino.
