A hike through some of the First World War sites where the Italian Futurists fought
This area preserves many traces of the First World War. Malga Zures, fortified by the Austrians with a complex tunnel system, was a particularly important point on the front and was the target of a particularly violent assault by the Italian army in 1915. The position was held by imperial troops until the end of the war, but the Italians positioned themselves in the immediate vicinity at Doss Casina (which became the focal point of the Italian front line), as well as at Doss Remit and Dosso Alto.
In the early months of the war, some Italian Futurists who were part of the Battalion of Volunteer Cyclists and Drivers were stationed at Doss Casina: among them Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, Umberto Boccioni, Mario Sironi, Luigi Russolo, Antonio Sant'Elia and Antonio Bucci. For them, the frontline experience was unforgettable, recounted in their private correspondences and diaries but also in their sound poetry and in the "Futurism Manifesto – Italian Pride".

From Malga Zures take the SAT 601 Peace Trail towards Dos Casino, passing through trenches, defense positions, and First World War barracks. A short detour from the main trail leads to the summit of Doss Casina (viewpoint: the Italian defense position was in direct line of sight with the main Austro-Hungarian defenses - Brione, Rocchetta, Tombio, Creino, Biaena) and to the small chapel built here by soldiers on duty in 1916. At the fork, follow the signs for SAT 601C leading to the Garbegne military camp and the Sasso Sega military cemetery. Turn onto SAT 601B to reach Dosso Alto, the scene of many battles. Return to the main trail and descend to Malga Zures.
