‘“Vaia” is the nasty beast that broke all the branches and bark.” … This is how the story begins of a larch tree felled on October 28, 2018, by a storm that struck all of Italy with devastating force. In Trentino, there were heavy rains and gusts of wind reaching 150-200 km/h, knocking trees down like toothpicks. And from this extraordinary and terrible event, a tourist attraction was born: the Giant Bench. Just a 20-minute walk from Besta Beach, you can enjoy a unique and scenic view.
What makes it special? The wood used was salvaged from trees felled by the Vaia storm, and the stones used for the steps were taken from an old quarry right at the site where the new structure was installed. The bench is more than just a place to sit; it's a symbol of strength, resilience, beauty, and endurance. It reminds us that even when life seems tough and stormy, we can overcome obstacles and become even stronger. Next to the bench, there’s also a heart where you can take beautiful photos, capture stunning sunsets, and maybe even fall in love... with Ledro, of course!
PS: Wondering where to read “the story of a larch”? When you reach the bench, take a look around.
