Monte Brione

The guardian of northern Lake Garda

Monte Brione rises between Riva del Garda and Torbole, right on the northern shore of Lake Garda – and it’s unlike anywhere else.

Why? For starters:

  • Its distinctive shape has become a true icon of the Garda Trentino landscape.
  • It’s home to one of the richest and most unique wild floras in the region.
  • Its ancient olive groves have been cultivated for centuries.
  • Rare Mediterranean birds and wildlife thrive here – an unexpected find at this latitude.
  • And thanks to its vantage point overlooking the lake, it once served as a key stronghold in the Austro-Hungarian defence system during the 19th century and World War I.

Monte Brione is a treasure chest of nature and history – ready to be discovered.

The forts of Monte Brione

Once the frontier between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Kingdom of Italy, Garda Trentino played a vital strategic role. To defend it, an impressive system of forts was built – with Monte Brione at its centre. Today, those historic forts tell powerful stories and boast some of the most scenic views across northern Lake Garda.
