Directions
Set off from the village of Vezzano (395 m.a.s.l.). Take the SP-18dir., Via Dante, towards Fraveggio. After cycling uphill for around 650 metres, follow the sign on the left for the centre of Fraveggio (440 m.a.s.l.). At the first crossroads on your left, take the downhill road, which will soon turn into a dirt track. Continue for around 1 kilometre until you reach the junction with the bridge between SS-45bis and SP-84, which you will see in front of you. Keep to the right, and continue along the dirt road, which runs alongside the SS-45bis for about 850 metres downhill. Cycle underneath the state road and follow the paved road of Via S. Valentino, which leads into the village of Padergnone (280 m.a.s.l.). Cycle through the village along Via XII Maggio, until you cross the main road that runs through the town square, which is home to the town hall and church. Take Via Nazionale on the right and follow the underpass. Take the SS-45bis, which continues to the bridge and the roundabout in the locality of Due Laghi (245 m.a.s.l.). From here, continue for about 1 kilometre until you get to Castel Toblino. A dirt track leads from the entrance to the castle and is flanked by cypress trees. This is called the Castel Toblino - Ranzo promenade and is marked by a SAT 613 signpost. It is around 3.5 kilometres in length and leads uphill into the village of Ranzo. Once you have reached the crossroads (complete with capital), turn left onto the tarmacked road through the meadows, past a stone cross and a crossroads that leads to S. Vigilio Church. Continue to the centre of the village and the church (which is complete with Romanesque bell tower) (743 m.a.s.l.). The route follows the SP-18dir downhill, and cuts through the mountainside, offering superb views of Valle dei Laghi and Lake Garda. After cycling through a charming rock tunnel, you will reach the village of Lon (544 m.a.s.l.). When you reach the first few houses, turn left onto Monte Gazza and you will arrive at the village square. Turn left again to follow the road towards Ciago and into the woods. At the junction with the dirt road, turn right, following the signs for the SAT 627 San Vili trail. You will descend into the village of Ciago (565 m.a.s.l.)., which you will cycle through along Via al Belvedere, Via di S. Rocco, and then Via ai Segrai, before joining a steep path up to the village of Covelo (589 m.a.s.l.), making sure to follow the signs for SAT 627. Follow Via Nino Poòl in a northerly direction and you will cycle past the church, eventually coming to a crossroads. Continue along the road to Ariòl uphill for just over 1 kilometre until you reach the town of Maso Ariòl (654 m.a.s.l.). Here, you will find signs for the SAT 627 trail. At the fork in the village, take the road to the left and continue uphill until you get to Maso Parisoi. Continue to follow SAT 627 until you reach the upper area of the village of Monte Terlago (750m a.s.l.). After a short uphill stretch in the direction of Prada, a dirt road will lead you through a beautiful meadow. At the crossroads, leave SAT 627 and join SAT 682. After 2 kilometres, you will reach the highest point on the tour (935 m.a.s.l.). You will get to another fork with a dirt road. Leave the SAT 682 and descend steeply for around 650 metres in the direction of Lake Lamar until you reach another dirt road with a less steep descent down to Lake Lamar (714 m.a.s.l.). Cycle around the lake from the north side and descend the steep slope, following SAT 627. At the crossroads at the end of the hill (775 m.a.s.l.), leave SAT 627 and follow the dirt road (and its various ascents and descents) through Faeda Forest until you reach the Laghi di Lamar campsite after about 3 kilometres (730 m.a.s.l.). Continuing on the SAT 615, head downhill until you cross the forest road that leads to the town of Terlago. Follow the forest road downhill to the start of the village (455 m.a.s.l.), before taking a left on to Val Manega. You will eventually reach a junction and the tarmacked Via Fratelli Negriolli, which leads to the north side of Lake Terlago. The tarmac ends at a crossroads. Keep to the right, and a few metres further along, take the path on the right that descends to the shores of the lake. On the right, follow the road that runs along the west bank of the lake and continue until you cross Via al Lago. On the other side of the road, you will spot the start of a cycle and pedestrian path that runs along the southern side of the lake, until it intersects with the SP-18, near to S. Pantaleone Church. After crossing the road, continue along the cycle and pedestrian path for 5.6 kilometres to the town of Vezzano, and the departure point.
– You can shorten the tour to 29 kilometres (max elevation gain of 797m) by taking the SP-18dir that connects Fraveggio to Lon. Instead of turning towards the centre of Fraveggio around 650 metres after starting the route, continue along the main road, which has a few large bends in it and ascends for about 1.5 kilometres to the village of Lon, where you can re-join the route described above.
– Another option is to leave the track to the Maso Ariòl. Follow the main road through the village and you will reach SP-18, which leads to Monte Terlago. In Vallene, head towards the Laghi di Lamar camp site. This deviation is around 2.1 kilometres in length. If you take this shortcut, you will shorten your route to 32 kilometres, with an 866m elevation gain.
– If you follow both shortcuts, the route is around 20 kilometres in length, with an elevation gain of 471 metres.
