Always wear a helmet.
Have your road bike serviced regularly, especially if you have been riding it for many years.
Make sure you are clearly visible on the road: wearing a reflective vest (or a reflective shoulder strap) is mandatory in tunnels and on main roads after sunset.
Your bike should have working front and rear lights.
Use your arms to signal a change of direction to other road users.
Don‘t use headphones while riding: the road requires all your attention.
Observe traffic signs, stop at red traffic lights and do not ride against the traffic flow.
Always ride in single file if you are in a group of cyclists.
Avoid riding on pavements and carry your bike through pedestrian zones if necessary.
If there is a cycle path, use it: it is for your own safety. The Italian Highway Code also requires cyclists to use cycle paths where these exist.
In the event of emergency call the following number: 112.
