Bike safety
safe in the saddle

Road bikes

Pedal safely!
  • Always wear a helmet.

  • Have your road bike serviced regularly, especially if you have been riding it for many years.

  • Make sure you are clearly visible on the road: wearing a reflective vest (or a reflective shoulder strap) is mandatory in tunnels and on main roads after sunset.

  • Your bike should have working front and rear lights.

  • Use your arms to signal a change of direction to other road users.

  • Don‘t use headphones while riding: the road requires all your attention.

  • Observe traffic signs, stop at red traffic lights and do not ride against the traffic flow.

  • Always ride in single file if you are in a group of cyclists.

  • Avoid riding on pavements and carry your bike through pedestrian zones if necessary.

  • If there is a cycle path, use it: it is for your own safety. The Italian Highway Code also requires cyclists to use cycle paths where these exist.

  • In the event of emergency call the following number: 112.
