Above the town of Mori, clearly visible from afar, the Sanctuary of Montalbano is easy to recognise thanks to the large clock on its façade.
From here, the view opens over the valley, while the setting remains quiet and intimate.
Marian devotion in this area is documented as early as the 13th century. The current building dates back to 1556 and was likely constructed using materials from the nearby Castel Albano, now in ruins.
Over time, the sanctuary became a reference point for the local community, as shown by the dates carved on the entrance portal, marking key moments in Mori’s history.
Inside, you can see paintings by local artist Gasparantonio Cavalcabò from the 18th century. The sanctuary can be reached with a pleasant 30-minute walk from Mori, along a path lined with small votive chapels built by pilgrims over the centuries.
Today, it is a stop along the San Rocco Path and also a good starting point for outdoor activities: just above the church are the Monte Albano bouldering area and the start of the via ferrata Ottorino Marangoni - Monte Albano.
A short walk that combines history, spirituality and wide views over the valley.
