An outing for expert hikers, initially touching Cima Bassa, leading along the ridge to the summit of Stivo, one of the most spectacular panoramic points of Garda Trentino
The trail initially rises among beeches and larches, then passes beyond the edge of the vegetation and runs among rocks, dwarf pines, and rhododendrons. A change that is felt step by step, until reaching over 2000 meters of the Monte Stivo summit.
Along the way, you encounter numerous testimonies of the Great War: Stivo was in fact a second line of the front manned by the Austrians, who also left traces here still clearly visible.

Near the refuge there is an observation/viewpoint installed with indications of all the surrounding peaks, ranging from Monte Baldo to the south, Brenta and Adamello to the west, the small Dolomites and Pasubio to the east.

Attention! The SAT 617 trail runs along the eastern ridge of Monte Stivo and is partly exposed: it is classified as EE, hiking trail for experts.
Follow the SAT 623 trail up to Cima Bassa. From here continue on the SAT 617 trail towards the P. Marchetti refuge and at the fork take the SAT 617B trail which first leads to the summit and then descends towards the refuge. From there, resume the SAT 617 trail and then the SAT 666 up to loc. Le Mandrie, where you continue right on SAT 666B back to the starting point.
Drena is connected to the other Garda Trentino centers by the extra-urban bus line 204 (Riva del Garda – Cavedine – Trento). The nearest stop to the trail is "Luch".
Malga Campo can be reached following the signs for Drena (state road 45 bis, a right turn at Dro) and then up to the fork in the Luch locality, where you take the forest road to Malga Campo.
Free parking at Malga Campo.
Mountain hikes require specific clothing and equipment. Even for relatively short and easy outings, it is always better to be well equipped to avoid unpleasant surprises and to face unforeseen events such as, for example, a sudden storm or a drop in energy.
What to bring for a mountain trekking?
In the backpack (for a day hike usually recommended 25/30L) it is good to bring:
Wear footwear suitable for the path and the season. The trail surface can be uneven or rough and a pair of boots will protect you from sprains. A grassy slope, a rock slab, or a steep path, if wet, can become dangerous without appropriate footwear.
Finally... don't forget the camera! It will serve to capture the hike and the countless breathtaking views that Garda Trentino hides at every corner. If you want to share your memories with us you can use the hashtag #GardaTrentino
