Safety tips

1. Choose routes suitable for your physical and technical abilities. Gather information about the area you will visit and the trail conditions and get a detailed trekking map.
2. Wear clothes and bring equipment suitable for the difficulty and duration of your route. Keep emergency equipment in your backpack, including a first aid kit.
3. Do not hike alone in the mountains. In any case, inform someone of where you are going and return to let them know.
4. Check weather forecasts before leaving and always keep an eye on the weather.
5. If in doubt, turn back. It is better to give up than to risk bad weather or face difficulties beyond your strength, skills, and equipment.
6. Do not leave marked trails and do not take shortcuts.
7. All described hikes are in natural environments and therefore their use is at your own risk.

The route starts from the center of the village of Covelo and is easy to follow thanks to the SAT signs. The first part of the route follows the SAT 612 trail up to Bocca di San Giovanni: at this point, follow the signs to Bait del Germano along the forest road. The return is along the same route passing through Passo San Giovanni.

Covelo is connected by interurban bus line 205 (Riva del Garda – Sarche – Trento) and line 230 (Trento-Ciago-Monte Terlago-Ranzo-Margone) to other places in Garda Trentino.

In the village of Covelo there is free parking in front of the Famiglia Cooperativa.

You must wear the right clothing and bring the appropriate equipment when hiking in the mountains. Even on relatively short and easy outings, make sure to take everything necessary to avoid difficulties if something unexpected happens, such as a thunderstorm or a sudden drop in energy.

What should you bring when you go hiking?

Your backpack (for a day trip a capacity of 25/30L should be enough) should contain:

• water bottle (1L)
• snacks (e.g. mixed dried fruit or chocolate)
• first aid kit
• windproof jacket
• fleece
• change of t-shirt and socks (in a plastic bag)
• make sure to wear or at least bring a pair of long trousers
• hat
• sunscreen
• sunglasses
• gloves
• whistle to attract attention in case of emergency

Make sure to wear the right footwear for the trail and the season. The ground can become rough and rocky underfoot, and a pair of hiking boots will protect you from sprains. When wet, a grassy slope, a rock slab or a steep path can be dangerous unless you wear appropriate footwear.
