Very easy route, ideal for families looking for a day trip in the mountains.
The old military road runs flat for much of the way towards Cima Avez, along the border between Trentino and Lombardia, a combat zone during the Great War. Tremalzo is a biodiverse garden, well-known all over the world for its endemisms, flowers ant plants which do not grow anywhere else in the world. Thanks to its border location, Cima Avez offers beautiful views over the Trentino and the Brescia region, over the Adamello and Lake Garda.

From Hotel Garda walk downhill and turn left onto an old military road (SAT 444 path). Keep on this flat road for some kilometres, until you come upon a crossroads. Turn right onto a switchback road leading up to Cima Avèz. This stretch is the only uphill slope of the whole trek.
Exit the A22 motorway at Rovereto Sud – Lago di Garda. Follow the SS240 della Val di Ledro to the bus stop in Ampola. Then turn into the SP127 towards Tremalzo.
Car park near Rifugio Garda.
You need to wear the right clothing and take the proper gear when you go hiking in the mountains. Even on relatively short easy outings make sure to take all you need so you don't run into trouble if things take an unexpected turn, for example a storm blows up or you have a sudden drop in energy levels.
What should you take when you go on a hike?
Your rucksack (for a day trip a 25/30L capacity should do) should contain:
Make sure you're wearing the right footwear for the trail and season. The going can get rough and rocky underfoot and a pair of hiking boots will protect you from sprains. When wet, a grassy slope, rocky slab or steep trail can be dangerous unless you are wearing the proper footwear.
And finally... don't forget to bring your camera! You'll need it to capture the stunning views you come across all over Garda Trentino. And if you like, you can share your memories with us at #GardaTrentino.
