THE VILLAGE OF NAGO AND ITS CHURCHES: SAN VIGILIO AND THE HOLY TRINITY
Nago lies on the slopes of Monte Altissimo and, thanks to its privileged position, offers spectacular views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. Its well-preserved historic center retains traces of ancient walls, historic building façades, and two churches: the Church of San Vigilio, probably built on the ruins of an early Christian place of worship, and the Church of the Holy Trinity, desecrated in the early 19th century by Austrian soldiers and later blessed again in 1804.
Church visits begin with group formation at the FAI stand located in Piazza Antonio Gazzoletti in Nago.
More than 700 exceptional places—usually inaccessible, little-known, and off the typical tourist routes—will be featured during the 2025 FAI Autumn Days, scheduled for Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 October, across 350 cities from north to south of Italy. Now in its fourteenth edition, this major public event organized by FAI – Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano ETS – is dedicated each autumn to Italy’s cultural and landscape heritage. A widespread celebration, organized by FAI Delegations and Groups across the country with the important involvement of young volunteers, confirms the Foundation’s commitment to promoting awareness of Italy’s rich and varied heritage of history, art, and nature among as many citizens as possible, in order to encourage its protection and enhancement with everyone’s contribution. In this way, FAI fulfills its mission of cultural and civic education (list of open sites and visit details available at www.giornatefai.it). Participating in the FAI Autumn Days is not only an opportunity to discover and enjoy the heritage around us but also a concrete way to help care for and enhance it through FAI’s work; each visit is an opportunity to support the Foundation’s mission with a donation.
