Safety tips

1. Choose routes suited to your physical and technical abilities. Gather information about the area you will visit and the trail conditions and get a detailed trekking map.
2. Wear clothes and bring equipment appropriate to the difficulty and duration of your route. Carry a backpack with emergency equipment, including a first aid kit.
3. Do not hike alone in the mountains. In any case, let someone know your destination and your expected return.
4. Check the weather forecast before leaving and always keep an eye on the weather.
5. If in doubt, turn back. It is better to give up than to risk bad weather or encountering difficulties beyond your strength, ability, and equipment.
6. Do not leave marked trails or take shortcuts.
7. All described walks take place in natural environments and their use is therefore at your own risk.

The route is well marked with SAT signs.  Start from the free parking lot above the village of Monte Terlago and follow the SAT 606 route to the junction at Passo San Antonio, then continue on SAT 602.  Continue until you reach the summit of Paganella near the former Cesare Battisti refuge. The return is along the same route.

Monte Terlago is connected by the interurban bus lines 205 (Riva del Garda – Sarche – Trento), 206 (Trento-Cadine-Sopramonte-Terlago-Monte Terlago) or 230 (Trento-Ciago-Monte Terlago-Ranzo-Margone) to other places in Garda Trentino.

In the village of Monte Terlago there is free parking at the end of Strada della Paganella or near the basketball court.

You need to wear appropriate clothing and bring the right equipment when you go hiking in the mountains. Even on relatively short and easy outings, make sure to bring everything necessary so you don't get into trouble if things take an unexpected turn, for example, if a storm breaks out or you suddenly lose energy.

What should you bring when you go hiking?

Your backpack (for a day trip, a capacity of 25/30L should be enough) should contain:

• water bottle (1L)
• snacks (e.g., mixed dried fruit or chocolate)
• first aid kit
• windbreaker jacket
• fleece
• change of t-shirt and socks (in a plastic bag)
• make sure to wear or at least bring a pair of long trousers
• hat
• sunscreen
• sunglasses
• gloves
• whistle to attract attention in case of emergency

Make sure to wear appropriate footwear for the trail and the season.  The terrain can become rough and rocky and a pair of trekking boots will protect you from sprains.  When it is wet, a grassy slope, a rock slab, or a steep path can be dangerous unless you have suitable footwear.
