A short hike on the mountains overlooking Lake Garda following the First World War trail
This route, which can be extended towards the Bal and Nara peaks, gives you the opportunity to discover some of the less known trails of Garda Trentino that in addition to breathtaking views also present clearly visible traces of the Great War
You can continue from Nodice Summit with a peak route which is challenging but worthwhile. From Bocca de Lé take the SAT 430 trail which runs along the ridge connecting the Bal, Nara and Guil peaks and descends to the mountain pass of Passo Guil. From here, turn right on SAT 422 towards the mountain pass of Passo Rochetta. From here you can return to Pregasina along trail 422 or continue to Punta Larici, a spectacular panoramic point overlooking the whole of Lake Garda. From there descend along SAT 422A and then take 422B which brings you into town.

The summit of Monte Nodice is scattered with trenches and defense positions in caves built during the First World War. There are even writings left by soldiers on the cave walls!
Safety advice
This information is subject to inevitable changes, so none of these indications is absolute. It is not possible to completely avoid inaccurate or imprecise information, given how quickly environmental and weather conditions can change. For this reason we disclaim all responsibility for changes the user may encounter. In any case, it is advisable to check environmental and weather conditions before leaving.
Attention! The SAT 429 and 429A trails are classified as EE, therefore suitable only for expert hikers.
On the "Scala Santa" or Holy Stairs there is a fixed rope to help with the climb; the trail is quite easy and no climbing equipment is needed.
From the church of Pregasina follow a short section of mule track south up to the first junction: here turn onto SAT 422 which climbs steeply through the woods. At the Tof junction continue on SAT 429 until you find the marked detour 429A. This section takes you towards the Scala Santa (where the steps are carved directly into the rock) and the Nodice summit, a spectacular panoramic point overlooking Lake Garda, the Ledro Valley and the surrounding peaks. Along the path you will encounter what used to be barracks and trenches from the First World War. Return along the same route.
Pregasina is connected to Riva del Garda by the interurban bus line 214 (Riva - Pregasina - Bezzecca - Storo - Pieve di Bono). Unfortunately, the services are not frequent.
Pregasina is about 12 km from Riva del Garda. From Riva follow the signs for the Ledro Valley (state road 240). Shortly after exiting the tunnel, you will find the turnoff for Pregasina on the left.
Free parking near the church of Pregasina.
It is necessary to wear the right clothing and carry the appropriate equipment when trekking in the mountains. Even on short and easy outings it is important to bring everything you need in order to avoid problems if the situation suddenly changes, for example in case of a thunderstorm or a sudden loss of energy.
What to bring when you go hiking?
Your backpack (for a one-day hike a capacity of 25/30L is fine) should contain:
Make sure you wear footwear suitable for the trail and the season. The terrain can become rough and rocky and a pair of hiking boots will protect your ankles. When wet, a grassy slope, a rock slab or a steep path can be dangerous if you don’t wear appropriate shoes.
And finally... don’t forget the camera! You will need it to capture the breathtaking views you will encounter throughout Garda Trentino. And if you want, you can share your memories with us using the hashtag #GardaTrentino.
