A short trip to explore the Marocche di Dro. A few kilometres of pleasant ups and downs along dirt tracks to test drive your E-MTB.

This cyclical route starts off in Arco and continues in a northerly direction. The dirt track begins after the famous Roman Bridge in the hamlet of Ceniga, and will accompany you for several kilometres, mostly uphill, along which you’ll tackle a few short, steep inclines interspersed with easier sections.

You’ll return to Arco via an asphalt cycle path, surrounded by the unspoiled nature of the Marocche di Dro. On your way back, you’ll also tackle a few short, steep inclines before enjoying the breeze on your face on the way downhill.

Directions

This itinerary leaves from the car park at Arco Bridge. Head north up via Caproni Maini, the road right under the castle walls. For a short stretch you will be cycling among the houses but then you come out into vineyards and orchards at the foot of the Colodri crags, an area which is famous for sports climbing. Once you get to the Roman bridge in Ceniga, keep to the left without crossing the bridge. Head along the River Sarca till you come to the junction before Maso Lizzone. Here take the right. The road changes now and you find yourself on a compact dirt road which is easy to ride on. There are some short uphill and downhill stretches till you come to the stop. Head straight on along an asphalt road, leaving Dro on your right and when you come to via Cesare Battisti take the first left. There is a short asphalt stretch, then you are riding on a dirt road again. Head uphill on a steady rise through the woods, come out onto a flat area, the perfect place to stop and take in the view to the south where you can see the town of Arco on the right dominated by the castle, and the castle of Drena on the left. Continue along this track to the junction for Lake Bagattoli where you head left. You continue uphill on a compact dirt road which presents no problems. At the next junction, turn right and head up and downhill on a dirt road. When you come to the barrier with the helipad on the right, turn right and head downhill. After a flat stretch, turn right and head uphill on a rough track, then begin a fun downhill run on a compact surface as far as the Dro motocross track. Follow the signposts for the Anello Garda Sarca loop and you will hit the main road outside the village of Pietramurata where you cycle along the footpath at the side of the main road, then cross at the pedestrian crossing. When you reach Pietramurata, head into the town and follow signposts for the cycle path. Cycle along the asphalt track through vineyards and orchards until you find yourself pedalling through the Marocche, a nature reserve with unique scenery. The cycle path continues to wind up and down until you come to a cement road surface. Take care on this section because of the steep gradient. Once you come to the old Fies power station the gradient levels off a bit. On the side of the road you will find a bar and a hundred metres further on turn left until you come to the stop sign. Head down onto the main road and after a straight stretch, leave the main road and go straight on. You are now cycling through vineyards and orchards.  Continue along the base of the cliff till you come to Moletta di Arco where you must keep to the left and head in the direction of San Martino. Pass through the hamlet. At the end of the road turn right into via Europa and keep to the right until you turn into viale San Francesco. Head on down viale San Francesco passing the convent of the Capuchin friars. Here take the underpass and then cross the bridge over the River Sarca. Now you are almost back where you started from.
