Among all the varieties of vegetables which, thanks to the Mediterranean climate, here find fertile ground for their growing, the Broccoli of Torbole sul Garda surely stands out. Imported from the territories of Verona in the seventeenth century, it has recently been declared as Slow Food Presidium*, and it is made unique by the Pelèr, the strong wind blowing from North, which prevents the formation of ice and hoarfrost so avoiding damages to its “flower”. It ripensfrom early November to mid-February.
Well known for its sweet and delicate flavour, the Broccolo di Torbole is consumed chopped in small pieces raw or boiled, and it’s very tasty if matched to carne salada, game dishes, pork, and boiled or fried fish.
