Focus on the olive – Travelling exhibition and meetings in the countryside of Lake Garda
The area around Lake Garda is the most northerly part of Europe for cultivation of the olive. It offers an ideal habitat, thanks to the exceptional nature of this strip of land, where the harsh rocky profile of the alpine landscape comes together with a particularly mild climate, the result of the mitigating action of the lake.
The “Focus on the Olive” project investigates the close relationship between cultivation of the olive and the culture of the area, comparing the local context with the situation in other countries, using a multidisciplinary and sensorial approach.
Production and harvesting, botanical notes and the peculiarities and characteristics of the oil produced by the age-old olive trees in the upper Lake Garda area, but also mythology, symbolic aspects, ecological features, the sacred nature of oil and plants and local art are just some of the aspects dealt with in this exhibition. The 2010 exhibition will present the public with the results of new research stimulated by the exhibition.
