Torre Guaita - Guaita Tower

Back
The village Pietramurata, as its name says, means house, a stone farmstead. In fact the rural houses were built near a small walled fortress. On the summit of the village appears the Torre di Guaita (XVI century), an irregular quadrangular construction in rough stone (by now without covering), situated on a limestone rock. Guaita is a medieval term which means guard or also autonomous organization with landed property. This explains why the tower, apart from the farmstead, represents the boundary between the Madruzzo and the County of the Arco.
